CloudRx Guide: How to Store Mounjaro Safely

To ensure your Mounjaro treatment remains safe and effective, it’s important that your pens are stored correctly at all times. Storage requirements depend on whether your pen is unopened or currently in use.

Storing Unopened Mounjaro Pens

All unopened Mounjaro pens must be kept in the fridge until you are ready to use them. This is why your medication is delivered in temperature-controlled packaging.

You should:

• Store in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C
• Keep in the original packaging, clearly showing the expiry date
• Ensure the fridge maintains a consistent temperature

You should not:

• Store in the fridge door, where temperatures fluctuate
• Use fridges that are unreliable or prone to temperature changes
• Freeze the pens

If a pen has been frozen, stored incorrectly, or is past its expiry date, it must be disposed of safely and not used.

Storing a Mounjaro Pen After First Use

Once you have started using a Mounjaro KwikPen, it can be stored either:

• In the fridge between 2°C and 8°C, or
• At room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 30 days

Important:

• Keep the pen away from heat and direct sunlight
• Always replace the pen cap after use
• Store out of sight and reach of children

You must discard the pen:

• 30 days after first use, or
• After all 4 weekly doses have been administered

Shelf Life

• Unopened pens: Can be used up to the expiry date if stored correctly in the fridge (2°C to 8°C)
• Opened pens: Must be used within 30 days

Always check the expiry date on the box and device before use.

Storage Do’s and Don’ts

Do:

• Keep refrigerated between 2°C and 8°C (if unopened)
• Ensure room temperature stays below 30°C (if in use)
• Store in original packaging
• Keep the pen cap attached
• Store away from heat and light

Do not:

• Freeze the pen
• Store near the freezer compartment
• Store in the fridge door
• Store with a needle attached

How Long Can Mounjaro Be Out of the Fridge?

• Unopened pens: Must remain refrigerated at all times
• In-use pens: Can be kept out of the fridge for up to 30 days, provided the temperature does not exceed 30°C

If Mounjaro Has Been Stored Incorrectly

If your pen has not been stored as recommended, follow the guidance below:

• Left an unopened pen out overnight:

  The pen can still be used, but must be used within 30 days from when it was removed from the fridge

• Left a used pen out overnight:

  Safe to continue using if kept below 30°C, return to the fridge as soon as possible

• Pen has been frozen:

  Do not use, dispose of the pen

• Stored above 30°C:

  Do not use, dispose of the pen

• Past expiry date:

  Do not use, dispose of the pen

Travelling with Mounjaro

If travelling, take extra care to keep your medication within the correct temperature range.

Key guidance:

• Store between 2°C and 8°C if temperatures may exceed 30°C
• Use a cool bag to maintain temperature
• Keep in original packaging, away from heat and light

When flying:

• Carry Mounjaro in your hand luggage
• Do not place in hold luggage due to temperature and pressure changes

Returning Mounjaro to the Fridge

You can return a pen to the fridge after it has been out, provided it has not:

• Been exposed to temperatures above 30°C
• Been out of the fridge for more than 30 days

Unopened pens should always be stored in the fridge until first use.
